The Feminists of Today follows writer and feminist Tessel ten Zweege (1998), who is committed to fighting for equality, yet increasingly confronted with exhaustion and doubt. As conservative forces gain momentum and the fight against gender-based violence remains urgent, she begins to question how to sustain her activism without losing herself. In search of a more sustainable way forward, Tessel turns to her friend and role model Anja Meulenbelt (1945), a key figure of the second-wave feminist movement. While their lives and work share striking similarities, their approaches to activism and self-preservation differ profoundly. Where Anja devoted her life entirely to the struggle, Tessel longs for a balance that allows space for love, rest, and creative freedom. Through intimate conversations and observations, a dialogue unfolds between generations about commitment, sacrifice, and the future of feminism. The Feminists of Now explores what it means to keep fighting for change in a world that resists it and how to do so without burning out.
